Ever since assuming the leadership of the University of Tokyo, I’ve wanted to share my thoughts and activities as president with members of the university, as well as the larger community outside our institution. With my research field being connected to the ocean, I’d always kept a log during my time conducting surveys and being out at sea. Now, having embarked on my journey as Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s skipper, I would like to share with all of you my record of this latest voyage, through the Â鶹ÊÓƵ President’s Log.

We welcomed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia at Â鶹ÊÓƵ.

Prime Minister delivered a lecture titled “Humanity in a Human-Machine Civilisation.” His thought-provoking lecture which focused on future society where human beings and AI coexist was attended by many students and researchers from both Malaysia and Japan. They had a valuable opportunity for meaningful dialogue and interaction across borders and disciplines. I hope that Prime Minister’s visit this time will further deepen academic exchange as well as mutual understanding between the two countries.

I attended the Relocation Ceremony of . The office was opened in 2015 as a base for Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s education, research and community engagement activities in North America. It has since been utilized as a place for interaction among Â鶹ÊÓƵ researchers, graduates based in New York and local companies and universities. In order to further enhance Â鶹ÊÓƵ's presence there and accelerate global collaboration, Â鶹ÊÓƵ New York Office was relocated in May.

During the ceremony, to which we invited Â鶹ÊÓƵ graduates working mainly in New York, local companies and officials at diplomatic missions abroad, we had a conversation about the education that Â鶹ÊÓƵ College of Design, scheduled to open in autumn 2027, should aim at. We will press ahead with our global activities toward our 150th anniversary next year.

I went to see a baseball game between Â鶹ÊÓƵ and Keio University in the Tokyo Big6 Baseball League’s spring season. Â鶹ÊÓƵ Baseball Club was established in 1919. Since the club joined the league in the autumn of 1925 when the league was founded, Â鶹ÊÓƵ has been a part of the top college baseball league.Having passionate support from members of the Cheerleading Club and so many spectators, Â鶹ÊÓƵ played tenaciously until the end. I was deeply touched by the players’ dedication to baseball and relentless effort made by staff and all the people who have supported them.
