Abstract
How is the changing global economy reshaping Japan’s future?In this Ushioda Fellow Lecture, two Ushioda Fellows, Bill Emmott, former Editor-in-Chief of The Economist and a longtime commentator on international affairs and Japan, and Nobuhiro Kiyotaki, the Harold H. Helm 1920 Professor of Economics and Banking at Princeton University and a leading scholar of macroeconomics and monetary economics, explore the major political and economic challenges facing the world today, with special attention to Japan. Two lectures are followed by a panel discussion moderated by Takeo Hoshi, Director of Tokyo College. Covering various issues, including geopolitical tensions, national security, supply chain risk, mounting government debt, inflation threat, potential financial fragility, AI-related investment boom, and monetary policy challenges, the conversation will examine how global change is affecting Japan and what choices lie ahead.
